Artist Statement

I am intrigued with the idea of taking traditional visual elements and reducing them to their most simple form and shape. My inspiration comes from the beauty of shapes and lines that are found in nature. As I develop a painting, I try to create an emotion or visual context that resonates with me.

My process begins with a time of ‘play’ while adding marks, color, texture and shapes. Freedom and spontaneity create little surprises and along the way allow the painting to have a direction. It is a fine balancing act between the beginning and the end - when the composition, textural elements and ‘feeling’ of the work come together.

Using cold wax as a medium (a mixture of beeswax, resins and solvents) with my oil paints, I am able to develop a unique surface by applying thin layers of paint, marks, bold textural elements and excavating back into those layers to explore the what lies underneath the surface.

The finished product has a rich satin luster which captures and reflects light.

I invite you to see my work and experience a joyful moment that inspires you and evokes wonder.
